Steps should taken before do an online purchase to avoid any scam !!!!!

17-Jul 2025

1. Verify the Website or Seller

  • Check the URL: It should start with https://, not http.

  • Search for reviews: Use Google, Reddit, Trustpilot, or forums (e.g., is xyz.com legit?).

  • Look for company info: Check their About Us, address, phone number, and social media.

2. Check for Red Flags

  • Too-good-to-be-true prices. Unrealistic discounts are often scams.

  • No customer support. If there's no email/phone/contact page, skip it.

  • Only accepts risky payments (e.g., UPI only, no COD or card option).

3. Choose Safe Payment Methods

  • Use Credit/Debit Cards, PayPal, or Cash on Delivery (COD).

  • Avoid direct bank transfers, UPI to personal accounts, or gift cards.

4. Review Return & Refund Policies

  • Legit sites will clearly mention return windows, warranty, and refund terms.

  • If policies are missing or vague, that’s a red flag.

5. Take Screenshots of Everything

  • Keep records of product listings, payment receipts, order confirmation, and chats.

  • They help in disputes or chargebacks.

6. Talk to the Seller

  • If possible, call or WhatsApp the seller to ask real questions about the product.

  • Legit sellers usually respond professionally and with details.

7. Check Social Media & Online Presence

  • Look at recent posts, comments, and reviews on Instagram, Facebook, etc.

  • Inactive pages or fake followers may indicate a scam.

8. Trust Your Instincts

  • If something feels off — don't rush. It's better to wait or buy from trusted platforms (Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, etc.).

✅ Optional Tools

  • Use ScamAdvisor.com or Whois Lookup to check website reputation.

  • Use Google Reverse Image Search to spot stolen/fake product images.
